Team Hodges -- The Bridal Shower

by - 4:38 PM

Once upon a time, in a land that could be called suburbia, a little girl lived with her Opa and Oma in a house that wasn't quite palatial, but was pretty cool anyway, and besides, she was a firm believer that when the King and Queen are in love, any home can be a castle.

Blah blah blah....dragons, knights in shining armor, whatever. She met a prince and they fell in love. Not quite storybook, I guess, unless the reader finds smoke filled pizza joints and five years of love-filled, yet entirely mundane, living together to be fairy-tale.

They got engaged. The bride-to-be hustled, along with some help from her friends and a very organized soon-to-be mother-in-law (that's a lot of hyphens!). Then, some three days before the nuptials were to take place -- which, by the way, are totally forecasted to be storybook -- the bride's very best friend threw down one heck of a bridal shower. It might even upstage the wedding, but that's a battle for another day.

In fairy-tales, princesses rarely have sidekicks. Well, this princess has a sidekick. Her name is Emily and if a party is the battlefield, Girl will whoop you hard. You will lose, because she knows how it's done.

There were cake pops with anchors in the wedding colors. There were were mason jars with little minty life preservers attached with twine and nautical straws. There were anchors and references to love and low tide. There was a freakin' oar with my new last name.

So yeah -- girl knows how it's done.

This life is so blessed and no fairy-tale can compare to that. I believe in the power of words, but I'm not convinced that a writer can pull something together that's better than the very life I live. My sidekick is rockin' and in less than four days, I'm getting married to my favorite person in the whole wide world.

Happy Tuesday.
And PS - prepare to be inundated with #teamhodges because the countdown is on.

This has quickly become my most pinned blog post. The wedding has since occured and the marriage is in full swing. You can read about the nautical wedding here. If you're short on time, you can get the quick GIF filled run down here.

Each and every single one of these photographs were taken by my sidekick and bestie, Emily V.
